The Greater Wichita YMCA announced its re-opening will begin on Monday, May 18, 2020 with details to follow.

The following letter from our President/CEO, Ronn McMahon, was sent to our members and program participants on Monday, May 4, 2020.

I hope you and your loved ones have stayed safe during this uncertain time. The COVID-19 crisis has touched virtually all aspects of our lives and the Greater Wichita YMCA is no exception. Now that we have guidance from the Ad Astra reopening framework - we want to share our initial plans to reopen our YMCA.

Our top priority remains the health of our community, members and staff.  From the earliest days of the crisis, we have followed the advice of the public health experts (CDC, KDHE, Sedgwick County Public Health Department, etc.) and we will continue to do so.

Here is what we know today:

  • Greater Wichita YMCA operations will resume in phases starting with our branches opening on MONDAY, MAY 18, 2020
  • We will start with modified facility hours and operations that comply with all regulations and guidelines (social distancing, sanitation, etc.) provided by state and local governments.
  • Our plan requires our staff and members to work together to ensure safety of everyone.
  • We intend to communicate more specifics on Phase One operations on MONDAY, MAY 11, 2020 by email, on our website, and on social media

As a reminder, all memberships remain on hold. We won’t charge your account again without notifying you. Our membership team remains available if you need support.

I wanted to thank all who have made sacrifices to keep our neighbors healthy and flatten the local COVID-19 curve. Simple little things like the “We Got This” yard signs, for example – reinforces we live in a wonderful community.

Let’s continue to think of others as we all adjust to our new normal.

We look forward to seeing you, soon, at the Y.

President and CEO
Greater Wichita YMCA

P.S. Our Virtual YMCA programs - including YMCA 360 - continue to be available and free for anyone trying to stay active while social distancing.
