FARHA SPORTS CENTER CAMPS OVERVIEW

Held at our YMCA Farha Sport Center ANDOVER (adjacent to the Dr. Jim Farha ANDOVER YMCA (Andover)) – our Farha Sports Center (FSC) Camps are intended for campers who have want to advance as athletes in one-or-more sports. Develop skills the right way through training, clinics with college players and coaches, and games. Participants will scrimmage within the camp and against the other FSC's campers. Full days include breakfast and healthy snacks.

  • WEEKS 2-10
  • TIMES 6:30AM-6PM (limit 10 hours/camper/day)
  • AGES 5 (with completion of Kindergarten) - 12
  • COSTS
    • $15/Camper ENROLLMENT FEE (charged once per camper - includes Camp T-Shirt)
    • $15/Camper/Week DEPOSIT due at enrollment. See Camp Policies for payment policies.
    • $125/Camper/Week for Children on Greater Wichita YMCA Family Memberships
    • $145/Camper/Week for Community Participants (Non-Members)

FARHA SPORTS CENTER CAMPS WEEKS, DATES, and THEMES

WEEK 1 - CANCELLED

WEEK 2 - MON. JUNE 1 - FRI. JUNE 5
  • THEME WORLD CUP (SOCCER)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW Focus on soccer and improve fundamentals including passing, dribbling, and shooting as well as strategy and teamwork. Local coaches and college athletes will work with Y staff and campers to improve abilities and participate in full drills, formal practices, and scrimmages.
WEEK 3 - MON. JUNE 8 - FRI. JUNE 12
  • THEME RACE FOR THE GOLD (TRACK AND FIELD)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW Campers will explore track and field events and learn the fundamentals of running and throwing including sprinting, distance running, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and more. Y staff will work with local coaches and athletes to get campers ready for our own YMCA Olympics.

WEEK 4 - MON. JUNE 15 - FRI. JUNE 19
  • THEME PUNT, PASS, KICK, CHEER (FLAG FOOTBALL)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW Learn and improve the fundamental skills of football and have fun doing it. Y staff will work with Friends University players and coaches to teach basics like punting, passing, running, play calling, strategy, and more. Campers can and will also learn about cheering and encouraging other players. As teams improve they will practice in preparation for our Y Flag Football Championships (to be held at the fields adjacent to the Richard A. DeVore SOUTH YMCA on Friday, June 19.
  • SPECIAL ACTIVITIES "Tailgate Party" after Y Flag Football Championships (Parents/Guardians Welcome)
WEEK 5 - MON. JUNE 22 - FRI. JUNE 26
  • THEME . . . AND ONE (BASKETBALL)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW Explore and expand on the fundamentals of basketball with this week-long camp that focuses on teamwork and fun. Y staff will work with Friends University players and coaches to teach basics including dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, play running, and more. As players improve skills they will practice and, eventually, scrimmage to determine who will be the Kings/Queens of our courts. 
WEEK 6 - MON. JUNE 29 - THURS. JULY 2
  • THEME Y-DE WORLD OF SPORTS
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW We'll spoof the WIDE world of sports and explore games played around the world. Y staff will lead campers through a series of exercises and activities that focus on appreciation for various games and cultures. Campers will create team flags and compete in Australian Kickball, Pickleball, Capture the Flag, Nuke 'em Volleyball, and Obstacle Courses.
WEEK 7 - MON. JULY 6 - FRI. JULY 10
  • THEME BUMP IT (VOLLEYBALL) 
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW Discover the fun of volleyball during this week-long camp that stresses and improves basics of the game. Y staff will work with Friends University coaches and area players to serve, bump, set, spike, dig, and defend as well as how to effectively communicate with each other on the court. Campers will drill, practice as teams, and scrimmage as the week goes on.
WEEK 8 - MON. JULY 13 - FRI. JULY 17
  • THEME WORLD SERIES (BASEBALL/SOFTBALL)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW It's time to take campers out to the ball game as we focus on America's Pastime and the basics of the game. Campers will learn from Y staff, Friends University Coaches and area players to learn to pitch, bat, throw, catch, field ground balls, bunt, make decisions on the field, and communicate and play as a team. As the week progresses kids will practice, play, and scrimmage as a team.
  • NOTE Players must bring gloves. Metal spikes/cleats are forbidden. 
WEEK 9 - MON. JULY 20 - FRI. JULY 24
  • THEME SUPER BOWL 2035 (FLAG FOOTBALL)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW We'll revisit the themes and skills, first enjoyed during Week 4 (see above) to continue to improve skills and team work. Our Y staff will, again, work with Friends University coaches and players and continue to practice and improve as well as scrimmage in advance of our "rematch" of our Championship showdown to see if the outcome will be different in the future.
WEEK 10 - MON. JULY 27 - FRI. JULY 31
  • THEME FINAL FOUR (BASKETBALL)
  • CORE VALUES Playing the RIGHT WAY - with Character, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility 
  • OVERVIEW Like when we re-explored football - campers will spend another week on the hardwoods and Basketball (see Week 5 above). Friends University coaches and players and Y staff will enhance fundamentals and abilities for improved execution in drills and practices before scrimmages. A tournament will determine the Summer 2020 Champ as we close Farha Sports Camp.
