When Emmett first started swim lessons, the water felt like a scary place. Even a little water on his face made him uncomfortable, and swimming seemed impossible.

Emmett and his family stayed determined. After participating in several rounds of swim lessons at the YMCA, he eventually began semi-private lessons alongside his sister. With patience, encouragement, and the support of his instructor Sam Allenbach, Emmett began to build confidence in the water.

In less than a year, Emmett went from sinking like a rock to swimming both freestyle and backstroke.

Today at age 10, Emmett’s family says they are forever grateful to Sam and the YMCA. Not only did Emmett learn to swim, but he gained the confidence and skills to be safe around water that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
