I have been a YMCA kid my entire life, and I’ve always said the YMCA was a second home to me growing up.
When I was younger, I applied to work as a lifeguard at the YMCA, and worked there for a couple of years until I had my oldest daughter. At that point, I was able to step away from work and be present for her during those important early years.
When I was ready to return to workforce, I began working at the South YMCA Early Learning Center, where my daughter also attended. Through the ELC and the various programs offered by the YMCA, Amelia learned how to swim, developed gymnastics skills, learned to write her name, recognize numbers and letters, build important social and emotional skills and so much more.
A few years later, I stepped away again and welcomed my second daughter, Emma. Today I work in Kid Zone, which has been an amazing fit for my family's schedule.
Being in Kid Zone allows my daughters to meet friends, socialize during the summer and participate in a variety of programs.
I grew up going to FunFit, gymnastics, swim lessons and rock climbing. Now I get to watch my daughter experience those same activities and create lasting memories of her own.
Kid Zone provides a safe and welcoming environment where Amelia can be creative, make art projects and bring home something that she is proud to show off. FunFit helps her stay active during the summer, burn energy and build strength. Swim lessons teach her essential water-safety skills, helping her learn how to stay safe and respond in emergency situations. Gymnastics allows her to explore her interests in a supportive environment while encouraging herself to grow. Mom’s Day Out gives her the opportunity to enjoy a camp-like experience where she can swim, learn, meet new friends and create themed crafts and projects throughout the week.
We have always loved the YMCA and always will because it provides so many opportunities for children and families in a safe, supportive environment. Knowing that my daughters are cared for no matter which program they attend gives me great peace of mind. The variety of available activities allows them to try new sports, discover new interests and build confidence while being welcomed by staff.
The YMCA has had a strong impact on my life since I was a child, providing opportunities, support and a sense of community. I have been fortunate to have worked in several departments at the YMCA, and now I have the privilege of watching my daughters create many of the same memories I cherish. Seeing them build friendships, confidence and community through YMCA programs is truly special and something I am incredibly grateful for.
