Holly Stands
I was approached by then El Dorado YMCA Branch Director Daniel McCoy about three years ago to join the Advisory Board. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what the role entailed, and I honestly didn’t know the full scope of what the YMCA offered. Joining the El Dorado YMCA board has since become one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.
I have always enjoyed working out at the YMCA - the trainers, staff and classes kept me coming back and became my “me” time as a mom. My children also love the Y, taking advantage of programs like Kid Zone and gymnastics, which makes it a place the whole family can enjoy.
Serving on the board has allowed me to make meaningful connections and meet truly wonderful people. One highlight has been planning the El Dorado Y’s Heartfelt Giving Gala: A Night at the Derby – a pivotal event that has raised significant funds to support families and many others in our community. I feel incredibly blessed to work alongside a dedicated committee whose efforts make the gala possible. Helping raise these funds aligns with my passion for strengthening our community, especially for children. I find happiness and useful purpose in helping others and serving to our community.
As a board member, I am committed to helping our community thrive and follow our YMCA mission – putting Chrisitan principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for everyone.
