IN HER OWN WORDS

For a long time, I didn’t feel comfortable in her own body. I wanted to feel better, but wasn’t sure where to start.

That changed when I showed up to the YMCA’s Pack the Studios event. What she expected to feel intimidating turned out to be fun, welcoming, and encouraging. I tried new classes, met instructors and, for the first time, felt like fitness might actually be for me.

That experience gave me the confidence to keep going.

When a co-worker invited me to join the YROX Fitness Race, I said yes. Through the Y’s training and competition, I was surrounded by a group of women who pushed each other, celebrated progress and showed up together. Strength training was new and challenging, but the support around me made it possible to keep going.

Over time, those small steps turned into real change. I have now lost 85 pounds and continue to grow stronger and more confident.

Inspired by my journey and the desire for others to feel that same support, I launched Power to Care, a series of fitness class meet-ups for child care staff, creating space for connection, accountability and a culture that encourages taking care of yourself.

What started as one step has grown into something bigger for me, not just personal change, but a ripple effect of support for others.
