For many teenagers, preparing for a first job can feel intimidating. For Kailiegh, the Greater Wichita YMCA's Job Prep program turned that uncertainty into confidence.

Designed for youth ages 15 to 17, Job Prep program introduces participants to the skills they'll need to enter the workforce through interview preparation, workplace etiquette and hands-on learning.

"Job Prep gives participants real world job experience," Kailiegh said. "It teaches you how to interview, proper etiquette and a lot about what you should expect in the real world."

For Kailiegh, the program opened doors she never expected, including a summer camp position with the YMCA and a new camp name: Bubbles.

"I got a job here at camp, which I wouldn't have gotten if I didn't do Job Prep," she said. "I've loved getting to know all these kids because they all have a story of their own, and I get to create bonds with every single one of them."

Another experience that  surprised her was the opportunity to earn certifications in first aid and CPR. Before joining Job Prep, she never imagined learning skills that could one day help save someone's life. Those certifications represent more than training. They showed her that the YMCA was investing in young people, trusting them with meaningful responsibility.

Just as important were the relationships she built throughout the program.

"The YMCA is the best place because of all the bonds everybody has with each other," she said. "The kids and the staff all work together and get along so well."

When asked whether she would recommend the Job Prep to other teens, there no hesitation in giving this answer:  “I would 100% recommend the Job Prep program. It helped me so much."
