For Tim Lentz, serving on the Downtown YMCA Advisory Board is about more than attending meetings—it’s about finding meaningful ways to support the YMCA mission and make a direct impact in the lives of others.

One of the ways he chooses to do that is through the YMCA’s Job Prep program. Each year, Tim volunteers his time to conduct mock interviews for high school students who have spent 12 weeks learning the skills they need to enter the workforce. For many of these teens, it’s their first experience sitting across from an interviewer.

What motivates Tim is seeing the transformation that takes place. He watches students who may have walked in feeling intimidated leave with a sense of confidence and accomplishment. Seeing them apply the communication, professionalism and life skills they’ve learned throughout the program reminds him why the YMCA’s work is so important.

Tim believes that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, and he knows that sometimes a little encouragement can make a lasting difference.

While Tim volunteers to help these students grow, he often says that he receives just as much in return. The opportunity to connect with young people, hear their stories and witness their growth is one of the most rewarding parts of his service to the YMCA.
