Wichita, Kansas — The Greater Wichita YMCA today announced June 8 as the first day of operations for the new Hutchinson YMCA in Hutchinson, Kansas. The 75,000-square-foot Y branch is located at 2000 N. Lorraine, on land donated to the Y by the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Construction of the new facility began in January 2025; its highly anticipated completion lays the foundation for a broadened and renewed focus on health and wellness that will be felt throughout Reno County.
“With this project, we set out to exceed expectations of what healthy living can look like in our community and show what can be accomplished through a shared vision,” said Mike Folks, Hutchinson YMCA Board Chair. “I’m incredibly proud of what the people of Hutchinson and surrounding areas achieved together and the positive message it sends to kids, families and adults that their future is our future.”
One of the defining features of the new Hutchinson Y is the Cosmosphere Space Place climbing structure, comprised of mind-enriching and engaging themed elements related to the Cosmosphere's mission of inspiring the future through space exploration. It is prominently located in the Hutchinson Y’s Family Center, where youth and adults from diverse backgrounds can gather to build connections and a sense of community.
The facility also houses a full gymnastics center, a three-lane indoor track and a first-class destination aquatics center with a lap pool, whirlpool, family pool with zero entry, lazy river, spray area and zip line.
“Every service, program, feature and amenity is state-of-the-art and filled with impact to the holistic well-being of infants through older adults – which is what sets the YMCA apart from others,” said Ronn McMahon, YMCA President and CEO. “We’re very appreciative of the support this project has received from the campaign phase through construction. We’re more than ready to open the branch’s doors and deliver first-rate youth development, family engagement and health and wellness opportunities for all.”
