Viii Sports Qualifying Championships

Wichita, Kansas — The Greater Wichita YMCA today announced it is bringing the Viii Sports Qualifying Championships to Wichita on Saturday, June 29 from 8AM to noon. The competition will take place outdoors on the Richard A. DeVore South YMCA turf fields at 3405 S. Meridian. Anyone age 18 and older can go to ymcawichita.org/viiisports to register to compete; it is free for Y members and $10 for the general public. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

Each participant competes in eight sports in under three minutes: golf, softball, tennis, basketball, football, soccer, strength and speed. The top male and female finishers will advance to the Viii Sports National Championships on August 2 in Rock Hill, South Carolina that will be broadcast live on ESPN. The all-expense paid trip includes airfare, lodging, meals, and local transportation.

“The Y is thrilled to host this sporting event and introduce Wichita-area residents to a completely new multi-sport competition format,” said Ronn McMahon, Y president and CEO. “We’re looking to give our area’s best all-around athletes their time in the spotlight as we continue to place a priority on finding ways to keep our community engaged and active.”

Viii Sports is an exciting athletic contest that takes place in a 100-foot by 100-foot competition space. The goal is to score as many points as possible in the fastest time. There are 50 points possible; six points for each of the eight sports, plus two bonus points for speed. Competitors are ranked by score, with the fastest time as the tie breaker.

In addition to Wichita, Viii Sports qualifying rounds for the 2024 competition season are being held in Crown Point, Indiana, Memphis, Tennessee and Rock Hill, South Carolina.
