Ambur Miller
Well before Ambur Miller built a highly successful career in health care leadership, she was discovering the importance of healthy living at the YMCA.
“Growing up on the south side of Wichita, the YMCA played an important role in my life,” the third-generation Wichitan said. “It provided a positive and healthy outlet through exercise, wellness and community connection, while also helping instill healthy habits at an early age.”
To this day, she remembers the lessons she learned at the Y about physical movement and wellness, and how they are tied to overall health and vitality. Those experiences not only left a mark on her as a child; they helped her find her calling in life.
Through her current position as Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Human Resources for Delta Dental of Kansas and Surency and membership on the YMCA Metropolitan Board of Directors, she’s able to focus on the one thing she cares about the most: Helping individuals connect, improve their quality of life and access to care.
“The people we meet and the experiences we have often shape us in ways we may not fully realize at the time, and serving the YMCA has been one of those experiences for me,” she said. “It has strengthened my belief that true community health extends far beyond health care alone. It includes wellness, access, mentorship, connection and the opportunity for people to thrive.”
At Delta Dental and Surency, Ambur, whose career began as a dental hygienist, works closely with providers, community leaders and decision-makers to elevate health outcomes and access. As a YMCA volunteer leader, she is focused on empowering youth and adults to discover their potential, purpose and each other. And her contributions don’t stop there.
She also has the privilege of teaching and mentoring future health care professionals as a Professor in the College of Health Professions at Wichita State University.
“As someone who personally benefited from the YMCA growing up, it is incredibly rewarding to now give back through leadership and service,” Ambur continued. “I truly believe strong communities are built when organizations invest in people, and the YMCA continues to do that every single day.”
Ambur’s leadership and advocacy throughout the region have earned her several honors from the Wichita Business Journal, including the Excellence in Healthcare Award, Women in Business Award and Innovator of the Year Award.
She recently earned her MBA from the University of Kansas, graduating with honors and a 3.98 GPA. She was also inducted into Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha), the national honor society recognizing the superior academic achievements of first-generation college students.
