Ed Frey
Three years ago when Ed Frey was first looking to add an exercise routine into his life, he searched for the right place, and it led him and his wife to the West YMCA.
Ed began using the fitness floor machines on his own but lacked consistency with this. He decided to try a Muscle Pump class with Kiley and Tralaine. They were immediately welcoming and encouraging. Ed enjoyed their energy and enthusiasm in class, plus it worked well for his schedule.
He then decided he wanted to add some additional classes to his schedule. He watched Flow Fusion with Megan on Wednesdays while walking on the treadmill and finally worked up the courage to give it a try. Megan’s energy and enthusiasm were off the chart, she was welcoming, encouraging and helped hold him accountable for showing up.
After a few months Megan convinced Ed to try Powerkick. It was quite a learning curve but he liked the intensity and Megan did an excellent job providing verbal cues and demonstrating moves. After adding in these classes, Ed decided to try yet another class with the encouragement of Tralaine. He joined her Monday morning Cycle Core class and as time went on he could see an improvement in his endurance. Ed has even added pickleball to his schedule!
Ed has made some great friends who have become like family to him at the West YMCA. He looks forward to walking in at 4:30am and being greeted by Joyce and Tammy, which is a great start to his morning. Ed now takes six classes every week with Tralaine, Kiley, Geri and Megan in the early mornings and does a four-mile walk on Fridays with a group Tralaine started.
Ed likes the group exercise classes because of the quality of instructors. They hold him accountable for showing up and challenge him to push himself. The members in the classes are also genuine and fun to be around and show support to one another.
Ed feels like the Y is truly a family place and a part of his life. He often travels for fun and work and misses it while he is away. His fitness level has improved tremendously and gives him the ability to participate in fun adventures like snow hiking in Finland!
He even got a compliment from the instructor on his balance and hiking ability which he attributes to Flow Fusion.
The Y is Ed’s happy place!
