Mark Holloway
The very moment Mark Holloway knew he had to make a change is when everyday things started to feel harder than they should. Simple tasks, low energy and not feeling like himself anymore became his turning point. That’s when he decided it was time to take control of his health and show up for himself.
In less than a year, he’s lost about 80 pounds by staying active with Zumba, walking, and lifting weights. But his transformation goes far beyond physical change.
His hard days still happen. For Mark, those are the days when motivation is low, life feels busy or overwhelming, and he doesn’t feel like walking through the doors. But he’s learned that those are the exact days that matter most — showing up anyway, even if it’s just to move a little or be surrounded by familiar faces.
Before consistency at the Downtown YMCA, Mark describes his life as more sedentary and disconnected from routine. Now, with Zumba, walking and strength training as part of his weekly rhythm, he feels more energized, confident, and connected both physically and emotionally.
Today, Mark can do things he once struggled with — things like moving more freely, keeping up in class and enjoying activities without feeling held back. Those small wins have added up to a big transformation in his daily life.
For Mark, the YMCA has become much more than a place to work out. It’s where he found accountability, encouragement and real community. It’s where instructors and friends notice when he’s not there, check in on him and celebrate his progress right alongside him.
He’s also proud to support our Strong Community Campaign, giving back to the same place that helped him rebuild his strength and confidence.
