I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and underwent surgery to have my prostate removed. For many years, everything remained normal — until 2023, when my PSA levels began to rise again. This time, my treatment involved 34 sessions of radiation therapy, followed by six months of hormone therapy. It took nearly two years after radiation and hormone treatment before my urologist felt confident in releasing me from active treatment. I now continue with routine follow-ups every six months.
My favorite thing about the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program at the West YMCA is meeting new people who are also navigating their own cancer journeys. I understand firsthand the physical and emotional challenges they’re going through. The friendships built during LIVESTRONG extend far beyond the program itself — we continue to support each other through monthly alumni classes.
