Joy Williams
When people talk about determination, consistency and resilience, one name immediately comes to mind at the Y: Joy Williams.
Recently, Joy celebrated her 96th birthday at the Y.
For years, Joy has been a familiar face in our wellness center. Nearly every day, you’ll find her making her way upstairs to the weight machines, committed to maintaining her strength, independence and health. Her routine has become more than exercise; it’s a way of life.
That commitment was put to the test when Joy suffered a broken wrist. Because she had spent years building strength and staying active, her recovery was remarkably smooth. She continued moving, stayed engaged and returned to doing what she loved.
The benefits of consistency have followed Joy throughout her life. Physically, it has helped her maintain mobility, strength and independence. Mentally, it has given her confidence, purpose and a sense of accomplishment that continues to shine through every interaction.
And perhaps that’s why so many people know her simply as “Grandma.”
She encourages others without even trying. She inspires people decades younger than herself to keep going, work a little harder and remember that it’s never too late to prioritize your health.
