The core players of the Hawks 2nd/3rd grade boys recreational basketball team met and played together in the Fall II 2025 season. Between seasons, they formed their own team, with one of the boys' dads, Jordan Hawkins, volunteering as head coach. They brought on several free agents continue to celebrate solid victories.

Coach Jordan Hawkins grew up playing street ball but never had the opportunity to play on a team.  He wanted to pass on what he'd learned, be a positive influence on a new generation and most of all, give his son an experience he never had, while spending time together with a sport they both love.

The kids, some playing for the first time, some having played all their lives, all speak of love for the game, and of how much fun they have playing together on a team. Their  parents, meanwhile, include both lifelong Y members, and some who have joined since the team formed.

Asked what the team means to them, they talked about the Y meaning something good for the whole family (including workout facilities for the parents and Kid Zone for younger siblings);  the affordability and accessibility of the program;  and the positive atmosphere, both in the facility itself, and in a reccreational sports program that values teamwork and fair, friendly play.

One mom said, "I grew up in the Y, and now I get to introduce the kids to it... It means a lot."
