For Missy Richardson, the Newton YMCA is more than just a place to work out. It’s a place where friendships turn into family.

Five years ago, Missy was faithfully attending Zumba classes at the Y when her family faced a scary and uncertain time. Her daughter was pregnant with twins, but the pregnancy was difficult. There were concerns about the babies’ size and growth, and the twins ended up being born a month early.

During that emotional time, Missy leaned on the community she had built at the Y. A couple of friends she met through Zumba stood beside her, praying with her, encouraging her and helping her stay strong when she needed it most.

Today, Missy still shows up to Zumba with that same spirit of connection and joy, knowing the YMCA is about more than fitness. It’s a community that lifts each other up through life’s toughest moments.
