About Parkinson's

Parkinson’s is a progressive disease of the nervous system marked by tremor, stiffness, slow movement, and balance problems. Exercise and physical activity can improve many motor and non-motor Parkinson’s symptoms. The YMCA is here for our members with Parkinson’s Disease, or related symptoms.

The Y's Focus

YMCA’s Parkinson’s Support Program goal is:

  • To prevent and delay physical decline associated with Parkinson’s Disease through structured physical activity.
  • To address the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, including depression, anxiety, and isolation, by creating a community and sense of belonging.
  • To restore hope through personal achievement and community.

Endurance, strengthening, balance and stretching help to optimize function and enhance quality of life. Integration of cognitive function and vocalization are included to address the decline often experienced with the disease.

Program Participation

There is no cost to participate in the program – enrollment is required, please contact the staff listed below in the table with each branch location.
