Matt Wintz and Harper
My daughter Harper has played soccer since she was 2. The YMCA provided a place to be active, learn the game and enjoy sports without pressure. It was a space where a genuine interest in sports could take root. Those early experiences helped build a foundation – not just for skill development, but for consistency, confidence and true enjoyment.
Coaching her through the YMCA and throughout her journey has created some of the most special and memorable times together. Practices and games became quality time, and coaching allowed me to support her growth while strengthening our relationship. The experience reinforced how valuable sports can be – not just for physical development, but for connection, communication and learning how to compete.
Over time, that early exposure grew into bigger opportunities. What started at the YMCA led to competitive play, travel and exposure to higher levels of the game. Recently, she has achieved her goal to play at the college level. The YMCA helped start that path by providing access, opportunity and positive environment at the right time.
