The YMCA became part of our family’s story because my daughter wanted to play volleyball. My son, being the typical little brother, wanted to do whatever his sister did, so we signed him up for recreational volleyball as well. His sister wanted to coach his team, but she wasn't old enough to do that ... somehow, I ended up coaching instead.

What made us decide to come back the next season was recognizing this is something that we could do as a family.

My husband and I would coach both my daughter's team and then my son's. We learned more and more about the sport together. A moment that has really stayed with us is when my son's team took first place for the first time. It was a hard battle, but so fun, and our team came out ahead.

Now, it has been over two years that we've been coaching. We've moved up from recreation to advanced volleyball, and my son still loves it.

I have made so many friends with coaches and staff like Haley and Catherine. It has helped our family grow closer. We practice more and take the time to learn new things so that our team and our kids can get better and better.

The Y is very much a part of our lives today.
