Andrea Eliot, Branch Director, Child Care and Camp

Andrea holds a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Friends University Wichita as well as an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education. She began her career at the Greater Wichita YMCA in 1997 as the Program Director for the East YMCA Early Learning Center. Andrea accepted the position as Branch Director for Child Care and Camp in 2016. She is dedicated to our mission to serve all and advocates at both the local and state level for youth development programming and the needs of Kansas families.

Administrative Assistant

Kelsey Meyer, Administrative Assistant

Kelsey earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Friends University. She joined out Child Care and Camp team as the Administrative Assistant in 2019. Kelsey has a wealth of experience supporting a large corporate office both in customer service and human resources. She is an important part of our team coordinating the branch annual campaign, recruitment, training/certification records and service to our program participants. Kelsey has a passion for helping others and has done this through numerous community outreach projects.

Morgann Herrington, Nutrition Program Director

Morgann studied Elementary Education at Carolina University and received her bachelor’s degree in 2020. She joined the YMCA Child Care Branch in 2024 as our Nutrition Program Director. Morgann’s experience in both administration and education, as well as her passion for health and nutrition make her a valuable asset to our Child Care Branch as she oversees our nutrition services, and Child and Adult Care Food Program. Morgann brings a great positive perspective on engaging youth and families in our priority of health living and loves getting out into our programs to meet students and supporting staff to implement high quality programs through nutrition services and education.

Lisa Whalen

Lisa Whalen, USD259 CDC Program Director

Lisa attended Butler Community College after high school and started her career at the YMCA as a membership associate at the West Branch YMCA. She joined the Child Care and Camp Branch in August of 2006 as a part time staffing coordinator and was promoted to Program Director over the Child Development Centers in 2019. Lisa is well connected in the YMCA movement and a member of the YUSA Hispanic Latino Leadership Network. She loves being able to support staff in fulfilling our mission and the opportunity to make a difference to students and teen parents in her programs.

Sherry Syakhasone

Sherry Syakhasone, Child Care Program Director (East YMCA ELC)

Sherry is a dedicated early childhood professional who earned her Associates Degree from Butler Community College. Working in the field since 1994 she has both classroom and administrative experience. She joined the Greater Wichita YMCA Child Care and Camp Branch in 2007 and has built a strong team at East Early Learning Center dedicated to the families and children they serve.

Jackie Tanner, Child Care Program Director (South YMCA ELC)

Jackie completed her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2012 from Cowley County Community College. Jackie has worked in the early childhood field for more than 25 years, starting her journey as a family child care professional, moving on to working a child development center overseas, and as an adult education trainer in the Wichita area. Jackie joined the YMCA Child Care and Camp Branch in 2013 as the Program Director at our Andover Branch ELC. Jackie believes that strong relationships with a parent and child are the key to building a strong program.

Senior Program Director

Debbie Ogle, Special Projects Director

Debbie attended California State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She is a dedicated advocate for children and families with over 30 years of experience. Working at the Mt. Diablo YMCA  in California Debbie supervised both school age and early childhood programs. She moved to Kansas in 2013 where she supported families and educators as a family partnership coordinator for Early Head Start. Joining the Greater Wichita YMCA in 2016, Debbie's passion for youth continues in her role as special projects director. She previously oversaw all of the Y's licensed early childhood programs.

KEY Academy
Paul Claassen, Greater Wichita YMCA

Paul Claassen, KEY & Camp Program Director

Paul studied Music and Physical Education at Emporia State University. He joined the YMCA Child Care Branch in 2021 as a Site Director in our KEY Academy program. He was promoted to Coordinator for our Andover district in 2022 and then to Program Director in January of 2023. Paul’s background in PE, experience as a college athlete, and work as a youth pastor makes him a perfect fit for our Y priorities of, “Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility”. He brings a high level of energy and excitement to the programs he supports whether it is belting out camp song, facilitating our staff trainings or stopping by for some active play time at one of our schools or early learning centers.

Michelle Nunez, Greater Wichita YMCA

Michelle Nunez, KEY Program Director

Michelle attended Wichita State University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 2022. She is a proud USD259 Alumni & taught for several years in the district before accepting a position on the YMCA Child Care leadership team in 2024. Michelle's fond memories of being a youth in our YMCA and belief in the power of community are a big part of why she chose to join the team. Michelle is active in our community as a member of Kansas Hispanic Education and Development Foundation and St Mary’s Immaculate Conception. Her passion for education, advocacy and community are evident in all that she does and her approach to her work with youth and families and supporting her staff to fulfill our YMCA mission.
