Elissa Knolla

Elissa is a native of Massachusetts and moved to Wichita in 2016. Elissa holds a Master’s Degree in Human Relations and a Bachelor’s in Behavioral and Social Science. Elissa’s experience includes over 10 years in the health and fitness field. She served as the Center Director at Wichita’s Opti-Life Health and Wellness Center and previously served as the Project Director for Youth and Family Services in San Diego as well as a Center Director for an overseas Navy Child Development Program. She joined the Downtown team as the Branch Director in December 2021, coming from the Andover Y where she was a Senior Program Director. Elissa’s hobbies include fishing, travel and exercise.

Brittani Poland, Senior Program Director

Brittani is responsible for overseeing the departments of Membership, Fitness, as well as Youth and Family. Brittani earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Kansas State University and is a certified American College of Sports Medicine Health and Fitness Specialist (ACSM-HFS). She joined the Y team in December 2009 as a South YMCA personal trainer, served as Fitness Director for the Downtown YMCA from November 2010 to November 2014, and has now taken on the role of Senior Program Director. Brittani enjoys building relationships with new members as well as working with current members to reach their wellness goals.

Rachael graduated from WSU in 2015 with her Bachelors in Exercise Science. Her career at the YMCA began with an internship which then led to Personal Training for the North YMCA for over 4 years, and she is excited to now be the Fitness Director at the Downtown YMCA. Fitness has been a part of her everyday life, and she has enjoyed helping others make it a part of theirs as well. She says being able to witness the impact it makes on people physically, mentally and emotionally has been the greatest reward.

Kayleigh has been a part of the Y for the last 5 years. She began at the Ventura Family YMCA which grew her passion for Community Development. After moving to Wichita in 2016, she accepted a position with the Northwest Branch. There through KidZone and later Mom’s Day Out she began to truly feel connected to the Y’s Mission. She is so excited to be a part of the Downtown team and continue to love on our community! 

Michelle Stucky

Michelle Stucky, Youth and Family Coordinator

Michelle has always loved working with children. It started with babysitting for families in the small town she grew up in. Later she progressed to work for the school district with children of special needs and then driving a school bus for children of all ages. She never knew where the YMCA experience would take her. Learning about the Y’s mission, she has developed a love and a passion for where the organization is today. Michelle‘s free time is spent with her fiancé and their four children. The family’s favorite activity is to go on bike rides on local nature trails.

Joshua has been with the YMCA since summer of 2017. He completed his AA in 2015, BA in 2017, and MA/MAC in 2019. He started working in the fitness world as a group exercise instructor in the fall of 2015 and as a personal trainer the summer of 2017. During his time at WSU he worked with many populations and specialized in both physical performance and Active Older Adult (AOA) activities. 

He has a passion for helping people reach their fullest potential at their speed and living an active life. He lives his life with the thoughts that “Do what you love” and “smile each day for those who need it.” With this in mind you will almost always find a smile on his face and ready to work with you on those goals you have in mind for yourself and your future.

Kirk is an undergraduate student at Wichita State University. He became certified as an ACE personal trainer in April of 2019, and is hoping to continue his education with getting a doctorate in physical therapy. He enjoys working with older adults because he wants every person to stay active as long as physically possible. Kirk also has a love for anatomy. With the knowledge in anatomy, he knows how important it is for the body to stay mobile and pain free. He is a personal trainer because he wants to see everyone reach their health and fitness goals no matter how small or big. He is adverse with the way he trains and makes it specific to the client by being more of a coach for athletes, and brings a softer tone to the people that are just starting out in their fitness journey. 

Karina Shayler

Karina became a personal trainer in 2018 and is currently working towards an ACSM certification. She has experience in corrective exercise, joint rehabilitation and functional movement therapy. Karina played many sports growing up but her love of movement was heightened when she found Taekwondo at the age of 11. She went on to becoming National champion at 16 and again at 17. Karina has recently slowed her lifestyle down just enough to spend quality time with her new baby boy. She loves helping people achieve their goals and believes that with proper nutrition, movement and a little bit of support; the benefits are endless. She believes that the body is meant to move and approaches fitness with a similar mindset as she did Taekwondo. Teaching clients basic movement patterns that can be progressed and sequenced together to create a routine that safely moves the client towards their goals.

Jalen is an undergraduate student at Wichita State and currently runs track and field there as well. Being a power tumbler, a competitive dancer of 14 years and overall lover of wellness, she enjoys finding ways to make fitness work for EVERYONE; regardless of where you are in your journey or where you want to go. She has worked with men and women who use fitness to look and feel better, young athletes, and mature adults wanting to improve their overall health. Being an athlete herself, she has also enjoyed doing sport specific training for individuals and teammates who are looking to improve their fitness for sports. Her goal is to share her knowledge of exercise science and health and wellness to everyone who is working on their fitness goals because it is so exciting to be a part of someone’s success story.

JaMarques earned his Undergraduate Degree in Sports Management. He became a Y-USA/ACE Certified Personal Trainer in 2020. As a lifelong athlete, JaMarques believes wholeheartedly that fitness is not only necessary, but key to achieving exceptional physical and mental wellness. His passion for fitness grew during his time as a college athlete at Tabor College. Now, JaMarques’ goal is to assist other individuals in achieving and/or exceeding their fitness expectations.

Sabrina fell in love with Health and Fitness when she went through her own fitness journey in 2013. She first focused on her nutrition to jump start her weight loss then after losing her first thirty pounds, she applied running, boxing, yoga and weightlifting to her daily routine. Sabrina started to not only see the weight shed (which was sixty-five pounds overall), but felt stronger, more energized and most importantly noticed a positive change in her mental health. These signs were all pointing to not only a lifestyle change, but Sabrina then had found her passion for fitness and health. 

In 2018, she became Y-USA ACE Certified and since then has had thousands of hours of Personal Training under her belt and counting. Sabrina loves working with people from all ages and fitness levels. Whether you are recovering from an injury and are right out of Physical Therapy, wish to master the skill of deadlifting, a new mom to be and want to know how to safely exercise while pregnant, or maybe just needing some guidance on the fitness floor, Sabrina will get you to accomplish your goals safely and build new ones along the way!

Christian is an undergraduate at WSU studying Exercise Science. His passion for fitness began in high school when he started working out with his younger brother just for fun. Over the years he has developed a desire to help others achieve their fitness goals after seeing the accomplishments in himself. He is drawn to powerlifting and coaching others in how to lift with appropriate form. He also believes that having fun while working out is very important. Whether you’re a first time gym-goer or have been in the gym for years, he loves to lighten the mood and make sure you’re having fun while getting in a good workout.

David recently graduated from Wichita State with a B.A. in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing his Masters in Exercise Science. He originally started at the YMCA as in intern specifically interested in the Livestrong program the Y offers. He then came to the Downtown branch as a trainer and his love for the environment surrounding the YMCA grew and continues to grow every day. It is a place that people can come and use as a stress release and work on themselves to pursue their fitness and overall goals. From a very young age David has always been active, competing in sports all throughout middle school and high school. He has a genuine love and passion for competition. He believes it brings out the best in people and pushes them further than they thought imaginable. He currently works with a variety of different clients and groups, anything from strength and cardio training to mobility and balance, of all age ranges. He has a strong desire to help people and open their eyes to what they are capable of through fitness. A quote he tries to instill in others that he is around is “Perfection is unattainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence”.
