My journey with the YMCA began with a simple desire: to improve my mental and physical health. At the time, I was grappling with the loss of a close family member, a challenge that cast a long shadow over my life. The Y became a sanctuary, a place where I could find a mental break from the weight of grief through the routine and distraction it offered each day.
Since getting involved, I've noticed a significant shift in my approach to challenges. The Y has instilled in me a sense of discipline that extends beyond its walls. I feel healthier, more energetic, and I've had the pleasure of connecting with many wonderful people. One of the most impactful aspects of my time here has been the opportunity to coach soccer and basketball, and even to officiate games, all at Farha Sports Center. The kids and their families have truly touched my heart. The feeling of helping these kids develop life skills and the sense of community we've built is incredibly rewarding.
Through my experiences coaching, officiating and simply being a part of the Y community, I've discovered a newfound resilience, self-discipline and confidence. I've learned the importance of patience and understanding, and I've grown in my ability to see things from multiple perspectives — whether I'm in the role of a mom, a coach, an official or just a supportive fan. What keeps me coming back to the Y is the combination of my daily workout routine and my children. The gym has become an integral part of our lives, and I can't imagine life without it. We've been a part of the Y since my child was five, and as she approaches 18, I'm filled with gratitude for the Y's unwavering support over the years.
