Mayura Perera

Mayura Perera's involvement at the YMCA’s Farha Sports Center began with a simple goal: finding a better place for kids to grow and learn through sports. What stood out to him about the Y was the strong programming, easy communication and the genuine care shown toward children and their families. He was looking for an environment that truly invested in kids, and he found that at the Y.

One of the biggest challenges he faced was finding a program that not only supported kid's development but also cultivated a welcoming and positive community around them. Since becoming involved, he's seen firsthand how hard Y staff work to genuinely impact families beyond names on a roster. "The Y actually tries to make a difference in these kids’ lives."

Through coaching and being part of the Y community, Mayura has grown as well. He's a stronger leader and better equipped to guide each player's individual improvement – on and off the court. "I've become more flexible to for each kid's development." 

What keeps him coming back to the Y is the same reason he joined. When it comes to both caring for people and providing quality programs and facilities, “It’s the best in town.”
