PERSONAL TRAINING FAQ

Have questions? The questions we hear most-often are below. Need more information? Talk with any of our Fitness Staff or Branch Directors or use our Contact Us form.

Why is the Greater Wichita YMCA offering Personal Training?
The Greater Wichita YMCA is the community-leading resource for fitness, health, and wellness. Our fitness facilities, group exercise classes, programs, sports, and more provide endless ways to work toward fitness goals in a welcoming, friendly, encouraging environment. In addition to general, member offerings - we also offer direct support for those with specific goals. Personal Training offers support for physical goals and, now, Nutrition Coaching allows additional support for food and nutrition choices and their impact.
Is Personal Training included with membership or Nutrition Coaching?

No. While general questions are always welcome and our staff will answer and support member needs, Nutrition Coaching is a paid add-on to membership and is separate and distinct from Personal Training. We encourage all members considering Personal Training for setting and meeting fitness goals to consider including Nutrition Coaching in that process. In some cases, the same professional can support both programs or our staff will work with members and Personal Training clients to find the right Nutrition Coach for members based on personality, comfort level, and goals.

How does Personal Training "work"?

Members interested in Personal Training - in any setting we offer - can speak with any of our Personal Training staff or other branch staff or fill out our online personal trainer request form to get started. Sessions are offered in pay-as-you-go or pre-determined bundles (based on the type of training you want/need) and pricing varies based on the type and frequency of training.

We encourage all personal training clients to consider an InBody Analysis Scan and the setting and review of goals at their first training session and to work with their assigned trainer to determine the best way to reach goals and to set expectations for mutual accountability. The fulfillment of Personal Training sessions is a joint responsibility of trainer and client.

What can I expect with/from Personal Training?

Our Personal Trainers run their client engagements based on our established protocols. Your first personal training session should always start with a fitness assessment, a discussion of goals and expectations, and a discussion of how you can work with our personal training staff and use other Greater Wichita YMCA offerings (like open fitness center, court, and pool times, group exercise classes, nutrition coaching, and more) to advance progress outside of training sessions.

Once you begin working with your trainer - they will help you perform the exercises correctly, efficiently and safely and demonstrate techniques where support is needed. Trainers can also help monitor progress and changes in behavior and physicality to help reach your goals.

How much does Personal Training cost?

Pricing for personal training varies by type and frequency of training. A full rate sheet is available below.

How do I pay for Personal Training sessions?

You can pay for personal training in full, at time of booking, by cash, check (payable to Greater Wichita YMCA), or credit or debit card. You can also establish an auto draft (from a savings or checking account (credit and debit card options coming soon)) to pay your personal training fees on a monthly and on-going basis. Please note that cancellation of ongoing personal training must be done IN WRITING at least 30-days in advance to avoid incorrect drafting of payment.

Are refunds or credits available for personal training sessions?

Unfortunately, no. Like with Nutrition Coaching and other add-ons, personal training sessions and commitments are designed to be consumed within a stated period of time (varies by training type - see rate sheet and options for more information). If you have specific circumstances or other conditions that make finding the time to meet and use all sessions difficult, please speak with your Personal Trainer or other Y fitness staff members to talk about options.

Are your Personal Trainers certified or licensed?

All Greater Wichita YMCA fitness staff members have undergone extensive training for the fitness areas in which they work. These qualified staff are available to assist you with the information and programs you need to see results accomplish your goals. Copies and proof of certifications and licenses are available, upon request, from YMCA staff members (trainers, fitness staff, branch directors, etc.).

How Do I Pay for Personal Training?

After choosing the type and frequency of training that is right for them (see question above for options/descriptions) - we offer two ways to pay for your personal training sessions:

  • AUTODRAFT – This pay-as-you-go option automatically drafts your bank account or credit card each month. Pricing is based on the number of sessions you attend per week. Please note that a 30-DAY formal notice is required to cancel autopay (auto draft) personal training sessions.
  • PAY-IN-FULL – Clients wishing to purchase a flat number of sessions can set their frequency (one or two sessions per week), length of sessions (30 or 60 minutes per session) and pay the entire cost for that level of service in 90-day/three-month increments with cash, check, or debit or credit card at the time of enrollment.
