Lots to Offer for Older Active Adults at the Y

The Greater Wichita YMCA is committed to the good health, fitness, and wellness of everyone in our community - especially our aging neighbors. As the average life expectancy lengthens there are more years for us to look forward to. Engaging with good health, exercise, and fitness practices earlier in life is important, but you're never "too old" to start exercising and pursuing a healthier lifestyle that can help prevent, manage, and treat diseases and ailments.
We have dozens of classes - in studios and pools - for members 50+. The classes support good form, range of motion, and flexibility with lower impact, lower intensity movements.

This class is a moderate exercise program for ambulatory people with arthritis which may sustain or improve muscular and joint mobility.

Move through a variety of daily living exercises using a chair for seated or standing support. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance.

This standing circuit workout alternates strength work with low-impact aerobics. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

This class offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.

Enjoy a series of seated and standing yoga poses with chair support. Designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
